iD Mobile Roaming Guide: Prices, Passes, and Destinations

iD Mobile roaming works in 50 destinations with no daily charge, including Europe, up to a 30GB fair use cap. Turkey needs Roam Beyond add-ons from £5, while long-haul or multi-country trips beyond the inclusive zone may work better with an international eSIM.

iD Mobile Roaming Guide: Prices, Passes, and Destinations

If you are an iD Mobile customer planning to travel, the short answer is yes. iD Mobile roaming works abroad, and for most European Union (EU) and popular holiday destinations, it is included in your plan at no extra daily charge. That puts iD Mobile ahead of most other United Kingdom (UK) networks, which reintroduced EU roaming fees after Brexit.

iD Mobile roaming is included as standard on every pay monthly and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) only plan. You can use your UK allowances of minutes, texts, and data in 50 destinations worldwide without paying anything extra. Outside those 50 destinations, including Turkey, the United States, and many long-haul countries, Roam Beyond data add-ons are available to keep you connected. Costs vary significantly by region, so checking your iD Mobile roaming destinations before departure is always worth doing.

This guide covers everything you need to know about iD Mobile roaming charges, country coverage, Roam Beyond passes, Turkey, Europe, and how iD Mobile data roaming compares with a travel eSIM as an alternative. Always verify current charges at idmobile.co.uk before travelling, as iD Mobile periodically updates its roaming structure.

iD Mobile Roaming Charges

iD Mobile roaming charges work on a two-tier system. In the 50 inclusive destinations, your UK monthly allowances of minutes, texts, and data are available at no extra daily cost, subject to a 30 gigabyte (GB) fair use data cap per billing month for customers who joined or upgraded on or after 21 June 2023.

If you exceed your monthly UK allowances while roaming in one of the 50 inclusive destinations, out-of-plan charges apply:

Type Charge
Calls to the UK £0.40 per minute
Calls to another inclusive destination £0.40 per minute
Calls received Free
Texts to the UK £0.14 per message
Texts to an inclusive destination £0.14 per message
Picture Message (Multimedia Messaging Service/MMS) sent £0.55 per message (pay monthly)
Data per megabyte (MB) £0.10 per MB

Outside the 50 inclusive destinations, roaming charges vary by country, and a Roam Beyond add-on is required for data. For countries not covered by Roam Beyond, standard international roaming rates apply. Always verify specific country charges using the destination checker at idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/roaming before departure.

A default £45 roaming data spending cap is in place on all iD Mobile accounts to prevent unexpected charges. You can adjust this cap in the iD Mobile app or by contacting iD Mobile via live chat. Note: if your bill cap is set to £0, roaming will not work even if you have a Roam Beyond add-on active.

Cruise and ship roaming

Using your phone at sea on ferry and cruise satellite networks carries significantly higher charges: £6 per minute for calls and £9.60 per MB for data. Put your phone in flight mode when aboard any vessel and only use data on land.

Read our guide to data roaming on or off while travelling abroad for practical guidance.

iD Mobile Data Roaming Explained

iD Mobile data roaming in the 50 inclusive destinations uses your standard monthly data allowance just as it would at home. There is no separate roaming data pool to manage. If your plan has more than 30GB per month, for example, the 40GB 24-month plan at £8 per month, you can use up to 30GB of that allowance abroad. If your plan is 30GB or below, your full plan allowance is available while roaming.

If you run out of data while abroad in an inclusive destination, additional data is charged at £0.10 per MB until you reach your £45 spending cap. Purchasing a UK data add-on through the iD Mobile app extends your allowance and can be used while roaming in inclusive destinations.

For destinations outside the 50 inclusive countries, iD Mobile data roaming requires a Roam Beyond add-on purchased in advance. These are data-only add-ons. Calls and texts are charged separately at out-of-plan rates in non-inclusive destinations. Purchase Roam Beyond before departure via the iD Mobile app or at my.idmobile.co.uk.

The Republic of Ireland is treated as domestic. The 30GB fair use cap does not apply to Ireland, and data, calls, and texts there are used exactly as they would be in the UK.

iD Mobile Roaming Countries List

iD Mobile covers 50 inclusive roaming countries and territories, split into Band 1 and Band 2.

In Band 1 destinations, your remaining inclusive minutes and texts can be used to call or text the UK, the country you are currently in, and any other Band 1 destination.

Band 2 (4 destinations)

Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Macedonia.

In Band 2 destinations, your remaining inclusive minutes and texts can only be used to call or text the UK or the country you are currently in. Calls between Band 2 countries are charged at out-of-plan rates.

The full iD Mobile roaming countries list, including the additional 50 Roam Beyond destinations, is available at idmobile.co.uk. Iran and Syria are not supported for any international or roaming services on iD Mobile.

iD Mobile uses Three's network infrastructure and roaming agreements. Following the Vodafone-Three UK merger completed in 2025, network infrastructure may evolve over time. Verify current coverage for your specific destination at idmobile.co.uk before travel.

iD Mobile EU Roaming

iD Mobile European Economic Area (EEA) and EU roaming is included on all plans at no daily charge, making it one of the most straightforward EU roaming policies of any UK network. All 27 EU member states are included in the 50 inclusive destinations, along with EEA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, plus several UK and EU territories.

For customers who joined or upgraded from 21 June 2023, up to 30GB of data per billing month is available when roaming in the 50 inclusive destinations. If your monthly plan includes less than 30GB, your full plan allowance applies. The 30GB cap does not apply to Ireland. Minutes and texts are drawn from your inclusive UK allowance, and in Band 1 destinations (which covers all EU countries), you can call and text the UK and any other Band 1 destination using your inclusive minutes.

Unlike EE, which charges £2.47 per day to access UK allowances in Europe, iD Mobile EU roaming activates automatically when you land with no daily charge trigger. Incoming calls in all 50 inclusive destinations are free.

Does iD Mobile Work in Europe?

Yes. iD Mobile works in Europe across all EU and EEA countries and several additional European territories. All 50 inclusive roaming destinations cover the most popular UK holiday destinations in Europe, including Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, and more.

Does iD Mobile work in Europe without extra charges?

For customers on current plans, yes,  for calls, texts, and up to 30GB of data per billing month. Your UK plan continues to work exactly as it does at home. You do not need to purchase a pass or add-on for any of the 50 inclusive roaming countries.

If you travel to European destinations outside the 50 countries, such as parts of the Western Balkans, Georgia, or Armenia, different charges apply. Check the destination checker at idmobile.co.uk before travelling to any European destination that is not a mainstream EU or EEA country.

Does iD Mobile Work in Turkey?

Yes, but not on the same free-roaming basis as Europe. Turkey is not included in the 50 inclusive iD Mobile roaming countries. Does iD Mobile work in Turkey? It does, via a Roam Beyond data-only add-on.

Roam Beyond add-on pricing for Turkey:

Data Duration Price
2GB 1 day £5
10GB 5 days £20
20GB 10 days £35

The Roam Beyond add-on is data-only. Calls and texts in Turkey are charged at out-of-plan international rates. For most travellers, messaging via WhatsApp using the Roam Beyond data allocation is the most cost-effective approach for staying in touch.

iD Mobile Roam Beyond add-ons are not affected by Turkey's restrictions on third-party eSIM providers. Turkey recently restricted third-party eSIM providers that require a new eSIM to be installed via app. iD Mobile Roam Beyond add-ons are added directly to your existing plan. No separate app, no download, and no installation is required. The restriction does not apply.

Purchase the Roam Beyond add-on before departure in the UK via the iD Mobile app. Ensure your bill cap is set above £0. Manually select one of iD Mobile's partner networks in Turkey,  Turk Telekom or Turkcell,  if your phone does not connect automatically. If data does not work on arrival, restart your device and check the bill cap setting in the app.

iD Mobile International Calls

iD Mobile international calls cover two different scenarios: calling international numbers from the UK, and making calls while roaming abroad.

Calling international numbers from the UK

These are calls made from within the UK to numbers in other countries. Rates are destination-specific and vary from a few pence per minute for popular destinations to higher rates for less common ones. For current international call rates from the UK, visit idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/call-abroad as rates are updated periodically.

Making calls while roaming in the 50 destinations

Calls to UK standard landline and mobile numbers are deducted from your inclusive minutes at no extra charge. In Band 1 destinations, you can also call other Band 1 destinations from your inclusive allowance. If you exceed your allowance, calls are charged at £0.40 per minute.

Receiving calls while roaming

Incoming calls in all 50 inclusive destinations are free.

Calls in Roam Beyond destinations, including Turkey

Calls are charged at international rates. Check the specific country charge via the iD Mobile destination checker before relying on voice calls in non-inclusive destinations.

Wi-Fi calling

iD Mobile supports Wi-Fi calling, which allows you to make and receive calls and texts over a Wi-Fi connection abroad without using roaming. This is particularly useful in Turkey and other non-inclusive destinations where voice calls incur out-of-plan charges. Enable Wi-Fi calling in the iD Mobile app or your device settings before departure.

iD Mobile Roaming Cost vs International eSIM

For many travellers, particularly those visiting destinations outside the 50 inclusive roaming countries or travelling across multiple countries, comparing iD Mobile roaming cost with a travel eSIM for international travel is worth doing before departure. If you're weighing eSIM vs roaming options, understanding the costs and coverage of each can help you choose the most suitable solution for your trip.

For UK travellers staying within the 50 inclusive iD Mobile roaming destinations, there is little reason to use a separate eSIM for data. The plan already covers it. Where a Jetpac international eSIM becomes worth considering is for long-haul travel outside the 50 inclusive destinations, for trips covering multiple non-inclusive regions, or for heavy data users who want more than the Roam Beyond add-on limits.

Best Roaming Option for Different Travellers

Weekend breaks in Europe. iD Mobile roaming is the simplest option. No add-on needed. Your plan works across all EU and EEA countries, and your UK allowances apply automatically on arrival.

#1. Family holidays in Spain, Portugal, or Greece

iD Mobile roaming covers these comfortably under the 30GB fair use cap. A family of four, each using an iD Mobile plan, can all roam free in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, or Greece without any additional cost.

#2. Frequent travellers within Europe

iD Mobile roaming covers all mainstream European destinations, making it useful without any planning overhead for regular EU travellers from the UK.

#3. Business travellers

The 30GB fair use cap may restrict heavy data users working remotely. Plans up to 30GB per month, such as the 30GB 12-month plan at £8 per month, have their full allowance available abroad. Plans above 30GB are capped at 30GB regardless of their data tier. If you regularly need more than 30GB abroad, a supplementary Jetpac eSIM for data is worth running alongside your iD Mobile plan for calls and texts.

#4. Digital nomads spend extended time abroad

The fair use policy can flag prolonged roaming if you spend more time abroad than in the UK over four months. Long-term travellers should review iD Mobile's fair use policy at idmobile.co.uk before planning extended stays.

#5. Travellers to Turkey, the USA, or long-haul destinations

Roam Beyond add-ons are required. For multi-country long-haul trips, if you're looking to Avoid Roaming Charges, a Jetpac best eSIM for international travel covering all destinations on a single plan often provides better combined value than multiple separate Roam Beyond add-ons.

How to Activate iD Mobile Roaming?

Step 1: Enable roaming on your account.

Open the iD Mobile app or log in to my.idmobile.co.uk. Navigate to your account settings and ensure roaming is switched on. Roaming must be active on both your account and your device.

Step 2: Enable data roaming on your device.

On iPhone: go to Settings, then Mobile Data, then Data Roaming, and toggle on. On Android: go to Settings, then Connections or Mobile Networks, then Data Roaming, and enable. Menu names vary by device manufacturer.

Step 3: Check your coverage.

Use the destination checker at idmobile.co.uk to confirm whether your destination is one of the 50 inclusive roaming countries or requires a Roam Beyond add-on.

Step 4: Purchase a Roam Beyond add-on if needed.

If your destination is outside the 50 inclusive countries, purchase the appropriate Roam Beyond add-on before departure in the UK via the iD Mobile app. Do not wait until you land, as you will need a Wi-Fi connection to purchase once abroad.

Step 5: Set your bill cap.

Ensure your spending cap is set to an appropriate level. Do not set it to £0 as this will block roaming even with an active add-on. Adjust in the app at any time.

Common iD Mobile Roaming Problems and Solutions

#1. Roaming is not working on arrival

Check that roaming is enabled in both the iD Mobile app and your device settings. Both must be active. Restart your device to force a fresh network connection. If your destination requires a Roam Beyond add-on and you have not purchased one, you will not have data access.

#2. Data not working in Turkey

Check your bill cap is set above £0. Confirm roaming is active in the app. Ensure your device has data roaming enabled. Manually select a supported partner network, such as Turk Telekom or Turkcell, in your phone's network settings rather than relying on automatic selection. Restart both the phone and the network connection after making any changes.

#3. Unexpected billing charges

Review your bill cap in the iD Mobile app. The default £45 cap protects against most unexpected charges, but if you have removed it, out-of-plan charges can accumulate. Also, check for inadvertent roaming. If your phone connects to a foreign network while near a border or on a ferry, charges from that country apply even if you did not intend to roam.

#4. Coverage gaps in specific destinations

iD Mobile uses Three's network infrastructure and roaming agreements. Some destinations may have limited partner network options. For specific network availability per country, visit the iD Mobile Community at community.idmobile.co.uk.

#5. Data is slowing down abroad

In inclusive destinations, data is subject to the 30GB fair use cap. If you have used more than 30GB of data abroad in the current billing month, your roaming data access may be restricted. Contact iD Mobile via live chat to review your usage.

Is iD Mobile Roaming Right for Your Trip?

iD Mobile roaming is one of the most competitive roaming setups available from a UK network for European travel, with free access to UK allowances in 50 destinations and no daily charge to trigger. For most short and medium-length trips to Europe, your iD Mobile plan is all you need.

For destinations outside the 50 inclusive countries, Roam Beyond add-ons keep you connected at straightforward prices. And for long-haul travel across multiple regions, a Jetpac best eSIM for international travel running alongside your iD Mobile SIM for calls and texts is the most practical and cost-effective combination.

Turkey's restrictions on third-party eSIM providers do not affect iD Mobile Roam Beyond add-ons, which are added directly to your plan.

What is iD Mobile data roaming?

iD Mobile data roaming allows you to use your monthly data allowance while abroad. In the 50 inclusive destinations, up to 30GB per billing month is available at no extra charge. Outside those destinations, a Roam Beyond add-on provides data-only access from £5.

How do I activate iD Mobile roaming?

Enable roaming in the iD Mobile app or at my.idmobile.co.uk, and enable data roaming in your device settings. Both must be active. For destinations outside the 50 inclusive countries, purchase a Roam Beyond add-on before departure via the app.

What is the iD Mobile roaming cost outside Europe?
